Election Date: April 7, 2014

The 2014 Indian General elections elected 543 seats of the national legislature (Lok Sabha - 2 seats are appointed by the President). The Bharatiya Janata Party led by Narendra Modi won a majority of 282 seats. The average election turnout over all nine phases was around 66.38, which is the highest ever in the history of Indian general elections. The election failed to elect an official opposition party.
